Vehicle Estate Appraisal: Settle the Estate Without Fighting Over the Car
Prepared for probate filings
Date-of-death valuations
Certified appraisers
When someone passes, their vehicles become estate assets, and executors, probate courts, and the IRS all need to know what they're worth. A certified vehicle estate appraisal documents fair market value for the court, keeps heirs on the same page, and supports accurate tax treatment of inherited vehicles.
Who this is for
Why Executors Order a Certified Appraisal
- Probate filings. Inventory and appraisement documents require supportable asset values, including for every vehicle in the estate.
- Fair distribution. When one heir keeps the truck and another takes cash, a neutral valuation gives everyone the same starting point.
- Tax basis. An inherited vehicle's value at the date of death sets its stepped-up basis. Documenting it now gives heirs something to rely on at resale time.
- Estate sale pricing. Sell estate vehicles at documented market value instead of a guess under pressure.
Retrospective and Special-Situation Valuations
Estate work has wrinkles other appraisals don't. We regularly handle date-of-death (retrospective) valuations, vehicles with missing or unassigned titles (common when paperwork wasn't in order, and in Texas often paired with the bonded title process), classic and collector vehicles in estates, and multi-vehicle estates needing consistent values across the board. Reports are prepared to Texas probate standards and used in filings in all 50 states and DC.

FAQs
Do bankruptcy courts require a professional appraisal?
Not always, but trustees can and do challenge unsupported values. A certified appraisal is the cheapest insurance against an objection that could cost far more in delays and fees.

- Yes. A missing title doesn't stop the valuation. If the estate is in Texas and needs to establish ownership, our appraisal can also support the bonded title process; elsewhere your state's titling agency sets the route.
- Any of them. Most orders come from executors and probate attorneys; we deliver to whoever manages the filing.
